I have debated whether or not I should ever start this series for quite some time, years in fact. I guess you can blame it on my ongoing battle with vulnerability. But there’s something you gotta understand when I say that. I’m not afraid of what I might share but rather what I might discover about myself throughout the process of writing so freely. As long as I can remember, there has always been something so therapeutic about this form of art to me.
So, I figured I could share some insight into my perspective as a husband, father and creative while I heal whatever it is that calls me to the reflecting pool of my writing. So, if you’ve made it this far already, thank you for allowing me to imprint some words onto your spirit. As this series gets a little further along the journey, I promise there’s going to be something for everybody. This as my introduction into the winding road that is my heart, my passion and my art while we discuss the world of our brands. I’m so happy you can all be here.
While I continue to develop a solid structure and a more refined model for these weekly blog posts. I ask you, please bear with me. This is going to be a learning experience for us all. But, with that out of the way. Here are some things I learned this week as a husband, father and a creative .
If you’ve been riding the “Love is Blind” train lately, you definitely know what I’m talking about. If you haven’t, cancel your plans for the weekend and binge watch the newest series on Netflix. Trust me, I was against it at first too, but here we are. For the sake of time, I’ll try to hit the bullet points. Ok, so, the show introduces a new concept to finding love by forcing individuals to “date” while being isolated in pods (definitely a quarantine idea). They eventually meet, get engaged and live together. After some time they have to decide if their love is enough to spend the rest of their lives together in marriage. Like I said, it’s a wild ride.
These shows make love look easy, or at least they make an attempt to do so. But, love isn’t blind at all. Love is about seeing the flaws in one another and still making the effort each and every day. Honestly, I can’t put up 100% effort every day – it’s not for lack of trying, we are only human. But, when I fall short, Sasha picks up the slack. Other days, I pick up the slack. We don’t discuss it anymore, it just happens – but that’s because we’ve traveled this road before. We learned to communicate early on, now it’s the non verbal cues that manage us. Ask for help. Lean on one another. When the load gets heavy, don’t toss it aside, shift the weight to the other shoulder and keep it moving.
The evening breeze, girl scout cookies and my family laughing around the TV playing Mario Kart 8. That’s the life I’m going to ask God to play on repeat for all eternity. I cherish these evenings more and more as the sunset memorizes my face. Spend time this weekend unplugging from the outside world – you don’t have to disconnect from electronics per se, but make time to take time together. There isn’t too much I can share on parenting this week, unless you wanna hear more about how I whooped everybody in Mario Kart with Dry Bones and a Mercedes Benz (I know, even my character is boujee). Oh wait, there is one thing. Baggy clothes are making a come back. So, be prepared to argue with your children when they want to empty out their wardrobes to make it resemble a Millers Outpost (where my 90’s teens at?). Seriously, it’s happening.
Ok, that was a lot of puns in one heading but you get the picture. As a creative this week, I learned the beauty of Cap Cut for our social medias. I’ve been creating more content for Mariposa Design Co. and even some for the V&S Brand. If you haven’t used tools such as CapCut, like myself, it’s about time to get on board with it. I was always worried that I was going to mess something up, but low and behold, we are still afloat – although I would recommend hiding the reels from the grid unless you want the boss to crack down (our aesthetic is paramount). But, honestly, don’t be afraid to try new things in your brand. It’s always fun to test out new methods of connecting with your audience.
On the Vic and Sasha front, we have some incredible news about a lead for our Disney sessions. It’s going to be incredible. I wish we could share more at the moment, but we definitely gotta play this one close to the chest until we have our work completed. Our coaching/mentoring program is going to be beefed up more intentionally this year so if you’re new to the photography scene or if you know someone who is , tell them to keep an eye out for special offerings. We are looking to create a community of like minded creatives to help photographers thrive in the industry though the use of online meetings and local gatherings. It’s going to be fun. But, definitely reach out to us HERE if you want more information. Other than that, it’s been fun. I’m hoping to make this a regular reading, so until next time. Adios!
