Since capturing their dreamy engagement session in Sequoia National Forest, we have been looking forward to Vanessa and Dennis’ wedding. They decided to tie to knot at All Seated In a Barn (Formerly known as, The Barn at Ellis Ranch), a beautiful venue in Shafter. Their nuptials couldn’t have had a more perfect setting.

A BARN WITH BEAUTIFUL NATURAL LIGHT

Prior to arriving to any wedding, Sasha and I have a pretty good idea of the shots we want to capture, and the looks were going for according to the venue. However, we were not prepared for just how amazing The Barn was going to look! It was absolutely perfect! On a day with a light breeze in the air, the side paneling of the barn had been pulled away, allowing for the ceremony to take place in breathtaking natural light for the first time ever. It was an absolute dream come true!

A SAND CEREMONY

Dennis and Vanessa are some of the most sincere and humble people. Their ceremony included a moment for the new family to partake in the pouring of unity sand, it was an incredibly touching segment. Throughout the day we couldn’t help but notice how the newlyweds took their time to acknowledge and appreciate one another. Whether by holding hands, or simply a light kiss on the forehead. They were affectionate and intentional in their love.

A LONG AND FRUITFUL MARRIAGE

These are the things a successful marriage requires. The kiss that becomes second nature to let your spouse know, “I appreciate you being by my side”. Or, locking hands and a simple smile that says, “I’m here for you.” All the signs for a long and fruitful marriage are there with Vanessa and Dennis. So, it’s no question how that love radiates throughout their family so effortlessly.

THEN, THE UNEXPECTED HAPPENED…

I bring this love to your attention to help you better understand how they overcome adversity, they overcome it together. So when an unexpected dust storm rolled through the wedding just before dinner, knocking down decor and nearly hurling a large canopy into flight, you can understand how they found comfort in knowing that it wasn’t about the decor or the table settings. It wasn’t about the picture perfect moments. The day was always about spending the rest of their lives, the same way they get through everything else, together.

AFTER THE DUST SETTLED

As the dust settled and the evening fell upon us, everything went just as planned. Our newly married Bride and Groom worked their magic throughout the festivities and displayed a love that was truly remarkable to witness. Their new found journey together is only the beginning, they have the entire world on their horizon. I jokingly told Dennis and Vanessa after the wind storm dissipated, that it was a perfect metaphor for marriage. Although, I was only being playful, it’s echos true nonetheless.

A MARRIAGE WITHSTANDS ALL STORMS

Every marriage is greeted with unexpected twists and turns. You can plan to bask in the sun one moment and be caught in the storm the next. What makes a marriage strong isn’t how you make it through those perfect days, but rather, it’s how you make it through the unexpected storms, dusting yourselves off and appreciating the fact you got through it together. I trust these two are going to be absolutely perfect, hand in hand, no matter what life throws their way, unless it’s a canopy, in which case you might want more hands.
