A wedding is one of the greatest, if not the single most amazing, milestone celebrations a person will ever host. The anticipation begins to mount from the moment you pop the question until it comes to a head with the first kiss. The time has never been more right to be sure that your outfit is on point. There are so many useful catalogs and websites dedicated to making a bride feel her best, in fact we have some useful tips for the whole family here too. However, today, I want to focus specifically on our grooms. These tips will help you elevate your style and boost your confidence on the biggest stage of your life – your wedding day!
There are so many unique options when it comes to elevating your coat. Bold colors and interesting textures are some of the easiest ways to make a statement. Personally, I love the look and feel of velvet, the colors just seem to pop a little extra. Velvet also adds a level of complexity making each coat irradiate style and sophistication, it’s a definite favorite of mine among trends. Basic rule of thumb is simply to go with the color and style that you feel most confident in but don’t shy away from trying on something that intrigues you. However, if you’re a “less is more” type, opt for what you know and love. You can never go wrong with Grey, Blue or even Tan.
I have always been a fan of shoes that have a little razzle-dazzle, almost to a fault. However, this is the perfect time to shine so here are some pointers. When picking a pair of of shoes, comfort is king. You’re going to be doing a fair bit of standing in those new feet so be sure you find a pair that are royally comfortable. If you come across a pair of shoes that you love but find them lacking in the comfort, toss a new pair of inserts in those bad boys and get to walking on a cloud. Now, for the real fun stuff: the style! Sporting a new pair of shoes is all about confidence. If they stand out among your outfit, you’re doing something right. There are shoes that have all types of cool additions such as rhinestones, spikes, buckles and even mirrors. If you opted for a loud coat it would be best to avoid bold colors on your shoes. That doesn’t mean you can’t add some pizazz. Some of my favorite shoes have small accents that make them stand out among the crowd. Just play with the look until you find what works for you.
Believe it or not, this is one of the single most overlooked accessories of all on a wedding day. I don’t quite know how or why that is, but it happens all of the time (no pun intended). Be sure to have a watch for the big day. It doesn’t have to be a Rolex, any time piece will help establish your presence as the leading role in this story. I personally feel some oversized watches are a bit too clunky for a wedding day, but it works for some, give it a try and see what feels best for you. Something mid sized with an intricate strap is just as appealing to the eye. I love the look of a rectangular faced watch with a leather band (alligator leather is elite to me but I’ve been known to be pretty extra at times); it screams style and sophistication. Like all things listed in this article, however, it boils down to how confident you are in your look. Coincidentally, I love the authenticity of time pieces that have been handed down from loved ones more than any designer watch ever jeweled by Jacob and Co.
Even if you aren’t a typical cologne wearing type of man. Your wedding day is the one occasion you absolutely must splash a dash of smell good on for the lady in your life. This elevates your wardrobe and serves as a device which can transport you back to the big day. It will become the scent synonymous with you and romance for all time. Find something that works for you. I find certain musks too pungent for my liking, while other florals are too sweet to the point of causing a headache. I find, personally, that I border on the edge of the musk and freshness. My favorite at the moment is Ombre Leather by Tom Ford. If you don’t plan on wearing it much outside the wedding, purchase a travel size bottle. Do what’s best for your budget just be sure you come correct, the Mrs. will thank you for it.
When you piece it all together, your look should be something that’s comfortable, stylish, refined and elevated. Be bold in your attempts to showcase your best attributes, chances are, she has told you a million times what she love most about you; just listen for the subtle cues and you’ll know. If you play to your strengths and find something you look absolutely great in, that confidence will lead you into one of the greatest memories of your life in unforgettable fashion. The spotlight is all yours, own it.
