First things first, we have adored the weather the past few weeks. Living in California, we have the best of all seasons crammed into a 24 hour period. It’s remarkable that we’re able to catch so many different looks within a single day.

Which leads us to one of our favorite maternity sessions to date! Ricelia and Tim are good friends of ours who reached out to us about maternity photos a while back. We have been counting the days for this session ever since. If you have had the good fortune of knowing either of them, you know just how lucky we felt to be able to capture this moment, they are the most playful and down to earth people you can find.

We held the photos at one of Bakersfield’s most well known locations, Hart Park. There are many difficulties that can arise when capturing images in such a well known location. We wanted captivating photographs but we also wanted to avoid being repetitive. So we held the session early in the morning, while the day was fresh and the light was crisp, avoiding any areas that have that all too familiar look.

Immediately upon arriving, the edge of the pond was calling out to us. What a way to start a morning. Ricelia’s gown couldn’t have been more perfect for the subtle hues of pink she was searching for. In selecting a more muted color, she was able to add other elements that really accentuated the undertone of timeless maternity. In other words, her decision to use a lighter color will mean her maternity photos will be in style throughout the many trends because more natural hues will never go out of fashion.

Every piece came together in the park nicely, even the weather cooperated, we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect outcome while shooting our nature aspect of the shoot. Before a change of wardrobe, we ventured to downtown Bakersfield to capture a more relaxed, urban session. Here is where we decided to incorporate bougainvillea which would add the bold hits of pink every new born princess deserves. It’s perfectly ok to indulge in those bright colors, let them be the exclamation for the celebration.

This was definitely one of the most fun maternity sessions we have had the pleasure of documenting. We know Tim and Ricelia will continue to grow even closer through this new chapter of their lives and we can’t wait to meet the newest member of their family.
